MONROVIA, Jan. 31(LINA) – The Secretary General of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), Robert Sammie, has commended President George Manneh Weah over the delivery of his State-of-the-Nation address, noting that the President’s oration was loaded with tangible deliverables and works implemented by the government in a short period.
Sammie said he was impressed with the president’s commitment and reiteration of his pronouncement of free tuition for students attending public universities and colleges, adding that the president understands the issues affecting the people and as such, the government is working tirelessly to ensure that the needs of the people are met.
Speaking on a local radio talk show in Monrovia on Thursday, the MOVEE Secretary General observed that President Weah is “a very innovative character” because he has introduced a lot of brilliant ideas in the governing system since his ascendancy to the presidency.
Alluding specifically to the ongoing National Identification Card registration process, Sammie indicated that it is a smart initiative that will help to distinguish citizens from foreigners and that the card may possibly be used during salary payment and voter registration, among others.
He also lauded President Weah for re-echoing his commitment to building the nation’s road networks, affirming that as a collaborator of the ruling establishment, MOVEE will not hesitate to promote the work of the Pro-Poor Agenda to the peaceful citizens of Liberia.
Speaking of criticisms emanating from the opposition community, Sammie said the criticisms were erroneous, terming their charge against the government as misdirected.
Sammie claimed that those who are accusing the government of being corrupt are owners of real estates and properties who have refused to contribute to the growth of the nation through the payment of taxes.
He challenged members of the opposition community to publish their real estate tax receipts if they claim that the administration is mismanaging taxes being paid by ordinary Liberians.
Among other things, Sammie urged all Liberians to join the government in preaching the message of reconciliation, saying that it is not only the responsibility of the government but also citizens from all walks of life as well.
Sammie wants Liberians to prioritize the nation’s peace over political interests or politicians who are trying to manipulate them into negative undertakings.
