President Trump took aim at Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) on Wednesday in her home state, saying that voters must send her packing if she doesn’t back his tax reform agenda.
Speaking at a manufacturing facility in Springfield, Trump went after the two-term Democrat, who is up for reelection next year in a state Trump won by nearly 20 percentage points.
“We must lower our taxes and your senator, Claire McCaskill, she must do this for you, and if she doesn’t, you have to vote her out of office,” Trump said to cheers from the friendly crowd.
“You can’t do this anymore with the obstruction and the obstructionists,” Trump added.
McCaskill faces reelection and while she doesn’t have a GOP opponent yet, the two-term senator is one of only a few remaining statewide Democratic officeholders in Missouri.
State Attorney General Josh Hawley (R) is believed to be close to entering the race. Politico reported last week that Hawley would get a sizable campaign donation from the fiscally conservative group Club for Growth if he gets in.
Hawley was not on hand for Trump’s Wednesday tax speech.
