America greatness lies not in its economy or military might, but in its values, especially that of upholding the sanctity of life as far as liberty, justice, human rights and rule of law is concerned. The US defense of these enduring values, and its ability and capacity to standup to any and all who tries to disparage such values, no matter how far flung in the world such abuses are taking place, made the US great. It was these things that made the world to look up to the US for hope in times of despair. It was such moral authority that led former US President George W. Bush, to demand in July 2003 for former Liberian President Charles Taylor to step down. President Bush could not stand the graphic and gruesome images of dead bodies of women and children placed at the gates of the US Embassy in the Liberia Capital after barrages of rockets bombs from rebel fighters that besieged the city. Those grisly images awaken that moral spirit within President Bush when he proclaimed, “I mean Charles Taylor must leave now”. In days, Mr. Taylor announced his willingness to step down and ceded power to his Vice President. Such is the US moral authority that constitutes the reliance on which the US projects all other power globally.
Today however, especially since the ascendency of Donald Trump to the Presidency, that moral authority seems to be drawn into question. Dictators and depots around the world are having free reign while US sits by idly. Russia invasion of Crimea and Saudis indiscriminate bombings of Yemen are just a few of the affront to America’s moral authority and conscience that have gone unchallenged. Now, to crown it all, a Saudis Journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, is killed and butchered worse than cattle in a diplomatic premise of all places. And yet, the President of the US cannot have a firm position but would rather put business interests above moral conscience and authority of the US? While we applaud those senators and other Americans that have condemned this despicable action of Saudi operatives, allegedly on the orders of its Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Salma, Eagle Eye cannot help it but to ask, “ Where is the US moral Authority today? From 2 October 2018 since the killing of Khashoggi in Turkey the US has got taken no action!
